Here are some of the things you'll need to perform this upgrade:
  1. Minimum 3-prong soldering iron. Grounded and 25 Watts. Either that or Butane powered
  2. Non-acid core flux electronic solder
  3. 5mHz crystal from Radio Shack's National parts # 900-5103. Price $1.18 ($5 shipping)

Here is a little blurb I found on the differences between the various crystal specs we continue to have questions about:
"Series resonance appears resistive in the circuit and impedance at fs is at its minimum value. Unless load capacitance is specified, all crystals are manufactured at series resonance. When a crystal is operating at parallel resonance (fL) it will look inductive in a circuit. Crystal frequency varies depending on the value of load capacitance. The load capacitance is the dynamic capacitance of the total circuit as measured or computed across the crystal terminals. Always specify the load capacitance if the crystal will be operated in the parallel mode."
If you are going to use a switch to go between acellerated and normal speed, you will need to acquire a RAM/Compact Flash card and canabalize one from there.
